The Association has been introduced to support local dancers further their pursuits in dancing at local, U.K., and, international level to compete globally with support, advice, and, hopefully some financial assistance provided.  It is designed to promote all types of dancing throughout Jersey and the taking part in the same globally at both social and competition level.  The Association will be affiliated to the UK organisation EADA (English Amateur Dancesport Association) which will be equivalent of a  head office and provide support to us and our Members. As JADA will be affiliated this allows members to take advantage of the discounts on shoes and dancewear etc. negotiated by EADA. This means that the Members Name and address and that they are a JADA Member is recorded in both the UK as well as Jersey.

To raise funds there will be 1 or 2  Gala Dinners per year with guest performers giving demonstrations.  It is from these that the dancing populace can get inspiration and motivation to advance further. In addition teachers will be provided from the UK from time to time to give islanders a chance to try dancing and have different ideas and methods of teaching.  In addition income from the membership fees will enable funds to be available for a regular newsletter / update.

The Association wishes to promote the awareness of dancing and provide a structure to assist the needs of dancers and encourage business support in replacing ballrooms and get Jersey on the map.  It is essential that Jersey youngsters have the same ability and opportunities as their UK and Guernsey counterparts. In addition the Association should also assist the island in flying its flag and in visitor to the island for the various events.  It is essential that Dancesport is given the same status as other sports by Business Houses and Jersey Government.

The Association would like to have a central notice board service so that the dancing events of any member and their dance schools, or, clubs have all of their dates, times, charges, etc. located in a central area and assist in the co-ordination of events reducing the likelihood of clashing events.   This will be added to the JADA web-site in due course so that any user, member or not will be able to access it and fine the necessary information. Membership will enable members to receive discounts on attendance at the functions.

The initial two fund raising events are dance tuition which is being provided by Gareth and Lisa Taplin of Eastbourne. They will be carrying out dance lessons on Friday 27th and Saturday 28th January and in conjunction with La Moye Dancing Club there will be a dance at Trinity on the Saturday night at 8:30 until 11:30 and will also will be carrying out dance lessons on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th February 2006 at the old La Pouquelaye School and there will be a dance on the Saturday night at 8:30 until 11:30 in the same location.

The first major event will be on the 25th March 2006 and will be held at the Hotel De France.  This will be a Gala Dinner with a demonstration by Ian Waite (Zoë Ball’s Partner on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ show) and Camilla Dellerop (James Martin’s Partner on the ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ show).  Ian and Camilla will also be carrying out a dance workshop in the afternoon from 2:00 till 3:30 so this is a big event for Jersey and a unique opportunity to dance with the stars.

The Rulebook and Associations Constitution documents are now available and any members can have copies.  These will be published on the JADA web-site in due course.

Attendance at the initial Gala dinner dance will grant automatic membership to Jersey residents at social function level valid until 31st December 2006 on completion of the Application form.  Thereafter the annual subscription needs to be paid.  Subscriptions can be upgraded to the correct level by application and payment of any additional monies.

Membership will ensure that members receive updates and newsletters, and most importantly priority in ticket allocations at future JADA functions, and discounts at JADA, GADA and EADA functions.

David Corfield of EADA will be negotiating with the States Ministers on our behalf shortly to have JADA recognised as a suitable ‘Sports Promoter’ with all satisfactory practices for equity, child protection, equal opportunities, membership controls, and guidelines in place.

The logo is the Island Map surrounded by two copies of the name JADA which are shaped in a curved manner forming a circle around the map and is regarded as representing Jersey and its status as part of the Globe.
