JADA Jersey Amateur Dancesport Association - Newsletter 2007.

We are almost at the end of the second year of the association’s life and we have run several very big events. The Association has maintained a stable cash flow throughout the year.

The association has brought dancing to the public attention by its activities and in particular the JADA Celebrity Dance Floor Challenge which raised £5000 for Family Nursing and Home Care.

The website has been very successful in providing a central point of reference for dances advertised in the Calendar and has been successful in bringing dancers to Jersey to attend these published events.

So overall to date we have been very successful in all that we have progressed in. It is with regret that we have to inform you that Christine Barette The Chairman, Doreen Fromage the Treasurer and Tom Fromage the Vice Chairman will not be standing for a further period and therefore it is important for the Members to suggest or Nominate Candidates for these posts to be elected at the next AGM to ensure that the Association continues. If no names are put forward by the AGM in January 2008 then the Association will have to close. Note applicants must be Amateur Dancers or non Dance Professionals.

 St. Helier Dance Festival:

A key event to keep in mind is the St. Helier Dance Festival to be held at the Town Hall on the Friday 2nd, 3rd and 4th November 2007. There will be Group Dance lessons taking place on the mornings of 2nd Friday and, 3rd Saturday covering Waltz, Cha Cha Cha, Quickstep and Samba. On the Friday there will be a dance with (Hawaiian Theme but you don’t need to get dressed up) a complimentary Non Alcoholic Cocktail drink on arrival and a local dance school demonstration.

On the Saturday 3rd we will have a dance with a Chicken and Chips Supper, a Latin Dancing Demonstration by a UK Professional couple - Andrew Cuerden & Hanna Haarala and the Annual Dance competition for the St. Helier Trophy. Names for the Competition must be given by 8:30 on the night.

To refresh you memories Andrew and Hanna were competitors in series 3rd of the BBC Strictly Come Dancing program. Andrew danced with Jaye Jacobs (Holby City Star) and Hanna Danced with Will Thorp (Casualty Star).

The event concludes with a Tea Dance on Sunday 4th November. The tickets are available from the Treasurer Doreen Fromage using the address on the application form. The tickets are discounted when the multiple events are taken up.
