Secretary's Report for the AGM for the year 2007 The Secretary's Report for the AGM February 2008: The Association has had a busy year and although Capital has reduced by £732 the year has been very productive. In the 2 years since it’s inception the Association has promoted 5 dance competitions two at the GALA Dinners, 2 at St. Helier Dance Festivals and one at the JADA Celebrity Dancefloor Challenge, and brought 4 professional couples and one amateur couple to demonstrate and 3 professional couples ran workshops for us. This has inspired some of the locals to consider competing and I have been told that one couple has competed in Guernsey and the UK. Professional Teachers Demonstrating
Workshops arranged* as well above. Amateurs Demonstrating o Andrey Sirbu & Alexander Hixson UK Amateurs. JADA has run two of the St. Helier Dance festivals. It’s running of the JADA Celebrity Dancefloor Challenge was a real prestigious event that placed the Association and dancing well in front of the public eye and raised almost £5000 for Family Nursing. This event normally would have been a GALA dinner which would have raised cash for the Association but as it was done for Charity only a nominal £500 was retained to cover the use of facilities. This was an extremely expensive event to put on and we did get accused of profiteering because of the price but the price as it happens was about right and it was only the raffle proceeds and sponsorship that enabled us to make a profit. Sponsorship was provided by Benest and Syvret and KPMG. We also received generous donations of prizes for the raffle. In addition to all of these we arranged for a top teacher who was a UK Amateur Finalist to come over almost monthly to enable people to receive training. The contract for this has now concluded. The website has been a very successful medium keeping members and visitors alike up to date with activities in the island and providing free advertising for the schools and charities for their dance events. It generates a lot of enquiries. Overall we have a very successful association. I would like to thank Christine for her leadership over the last two years, and Doreen for the control of our books in the role of Treasurer, and also Tom who has been a get help as a Vice Chairman. Unfortunately they are no longer in a position to be able to continue in office and therefore we now have vacancies for these 3 key positions within the association.
